Freezer is a Terrorcon Sweep from the Rise of the Beasts portion of the Movie continuity family.
I didn't think I would see Optimus Prime with you, but monkeys do travel in troops.

Freezer is one of the small insectoid-like Sweeps that serve under Scourge as his personal hunters and evil-doers in general. Along with his similar-looking partner in crime, Novakane, the two follow their master's every command even if it's sure to cost them their very own lives.

Rise of the Beasts film

[edit]

Scourge deployed Freezer and Novakane to retrieve the Transwarp Key and kill the two humans aware of its existence, Elena Wallace and Noah Díaz. They pursued them through the museum, having the brute strength to smash through doors, but also moving stealthily with their ability to cling to walls. When one of them was about to get to Elena, Noah momentarily stopped him by hitting his head with a relic, and the humans managed to run out the exit, where a heated battle between the Autobots and the Terrorcons was taking place. Both Freezer and Novakane followed the humans outside, where they attacked and fought against Mirage until the battle was over.

Freezer was later dispatched alone in Peru, with the same mission of "Kill the humans, get the key". Crossing the rooftops and avoiding detection due to Mirage being distracted by 'groupies', he went underground into the buried city. Without the humans noticing, he snuck into the chamber with the empty coffin which had once contained the key, but before he could ambush either of them, Noah saw him on the wall behind Elena. The pair ran for their lives, with the Sweep giving relentless chase. After nearly killing them several times, Freezer himself was destroyed when Noah accidentally shot him with his Cybertronian gauntlet, not having realized the two had any weapons to fight back with. Rise of the Beasts

Freezer's involvement in the preceding events, or events mostly similar, were also chronicled in the books "Mission at the Museum" and "The Search Is On".

  • Terrorcon Freezer (Core Class, 2023)
Part of the fifth wave of Studio Series Core Class, Terrorcon Freezer is based on the character's appearance in Rise of the Beasts, converting from a Frenzy-esque four-armed robot into three Cybertronian weapon modes: a handheld blaster for other figures, a free-standing gun emplacement, and a configuration designed to attach to Studio Series Scourge's truck bed. These alternate modes were created for the toy as Freezer does not transform in the film. Despite this, the blaster barrel was not made compatible with contemporary Fire Blast effects. His hands use 5mm ports instead of 3mm like other Core Class figures.
His packaging and insert are decorated with the inside of the museum where he chases the humans. His instructions use Decepticon purple instead of the blue introduced for the Maximals and Terrorcons. Some copies were reported to have loose ball joints. The elbow ball sockets on the lower arms may also crack from having the tabs inserted for transformation.
Freezer and wavemate Arcee were first revealed via Amazon Australia listings, days before their official reveal by Hasbro on January 10, 2023.
Freezer was later redecoed (with a slightly new head) into his fellow Terrorcon Novakane.

Notes

[edit]
  • The CGI models used for Freezer and Novakane suggest they were supposed to have distinct characteristics on their faces to make it easier to tell them apart, with promotional material suggesting Freezer is the one with two scars on his forehead and Novakane is the one that had his left antenna cut off. However, a gaffe by the animators led to both designs being used interchangeably in the film itself, not only between the two Sweeps that follow Scourge around but also between multiple larger-sized Sweeps that share their body-type during the final battle.
    • This difficulty to tell the Sweeps apart, along with the initial reveal of Freezer's name, led to a small misconception that all generic Terrorcons were called Freezers instead. This was supported by a single character profile posted on social media,[2] but was contradicted by the "Mission at the Museum" book and the "Villains" behind-the-scenes featurette, which call them Sweeps. Beyond the Studio Series toy confirming Freezer as one of the Sweeps at the museum, a set of Chinese trading cards revealed him and Novakane to be the specific Sweeps that serve under Scourge, and the "The Search Is On" book confirmed Freezer to be the one that hunts down the humans in the Peruvian cave and ultimately dies there.
