Elena Wallace grew up in Brooklyn with her taxi-driver father. They would often go to Tony's Pizza together. Elena would grow up never leaving New York.

In 1994, Elena was working at the Ellis Island Museum. Despite her extensive historical knowledge, she worked as an intern, doing odd jobs such as ironing clothes and fetching coffee for her boss. One day, after running late, Elena would be roped into deducing the authenticity of several artifacts seized by the police. While her boss was busy taking all the credit, Elena's eye would be caught by a small avian statuette being unloaded. Elena began examining it, rebuking her boss's claim that it was Nubian. Unfortunately, it was then taken to a lab tech–only area, though she was able to jot down the strange letters carved into it. Later, after closing, Elena used the keycard from the clothes her boss left to get into the lab. She began examining the statuette, but while using a scanning device, it began crumbling into pieces. Her worrying was quickly replaced with curiosity at the crystalline object inside. Unbeknownst to her, the object began broadcasting a beacon invisible to her, but not to others. She began examining it instead, discovering that the glyphs on it were linked to another Inca site in Peru and ancient depictions of odd animals. Suddenly, the lights went out, prompting her to take the crystal and leave. Before she could, she bumped into Noah Diaz, who was looking for the crystal too. They chased each other around for a bit, before Elena gave him the chance to explain himself. He said that the crystal belonged to some giant space robots, which Elena didn't believe. The security guard chose that time to show up, but he didn't get the chance to do much before the wall exploded inwards. Outside were three terrifying robots who had arrived to take the crystal. Elena and Noah ran away and one of the robots sent several smaller ones after them. A chase ensued, and the two humans eventually ran outside, only to be faced with a raging battle taking place. Elena dropped the key, and they were soon stopped by one of the robot's bombs. The battle was interrupted by a giant, fire-breathing bird, who Elena noticed bore one of the same symbols that was on the statue. The group managed to escape, though the crystal was taken from them.

The giant bird explained everything: she was the Maximal Airazor, the other robots were the Autobots, and the ones who'd attacked them were the three Terrorcons: Scourge, Battletrap, and Nightbird. The Terrorcons served the planet-eating dark god Unicron, and they had come to Earth to reclaim the crystal. This crystal was the Transwarp Key, a device capable of traversing space and time. Fortunately, Scourge had only taken half of the Key, as the Maximals had split it long ago. Airazor did not know where the other half had gone, but Elena realized the symbols matched others seen in Peru, where the second part of the Key must be. Elena was asked if she would lead them there, to which she agreed.

The next morning, Elena, Noah and the Autobots met up with Stratosphere, a giant flying Autobot who was to take them to Peru. While on the rough flight, Elena sang to herself to keep calm. Noah began talking to her, and she talked about her father, and how she'd be making him proud. Noah asked her if the Key was in Peru, and told her he intended to destroy it. Once in Peru, they met up with Wheeljack, who pointed out a church that rested on top of the temple they were looking for. Their way was blocked by a city-wide festival, so Noah and Elena disguised as parade marchers. Once inside the church, they began looking around until Elena noticed the stonework on the ground. She noticed the same symbol on Airazor, and realized she could rotate the stone it was on. Once all the stones were aligned, the ground opened to reveal a large staircase descending downwards. Once underground, Elena and Noah came across ancient subterranean ruins, which they began to explore. Elena noticed the temple they'd been looking for, and they ventured to it. They came across a large box, which they opened to reveal the Key... wasn't there. Instead, two new symbols were carved into the stone. Elena had just enough time to write them down when Freezer found them, having been sent by Scourge. He chased them through the ruins until Noah managed to shoot him.

After they made it outside into the jungle, they were stopped by a giant robot gorilla, who demanded to know who they were. The Autobots quickly arrived, and had a quick standoff with the Maximals before Airazor deescalated the situation. She introduced her fellow Maximals: Rhinox, Cheetor, and Optimus Primal. Airazor updated Primal on why they were there and how the Terrorcons were hunting them, and Elena said that the Key hadn't been in the cave. Primal said they had moved it long ago, and led them to a human village. Primal revealed that the Maximals had been working with a human tribe for hundreds of years, and they brought out the second half of the Key. That night, Elena was looking at the symbols when Noah sat next to her. She asked him about not destroying the Key, and instead finding a way to save both their worlds, but Noah was adamant. Elena told Noah that him and Optimus were the same, and that she just saw a big brother trying to protect his family.

The next morning, Elena was awoken by Airazor, who had succumbed to Scourge's mind control. The Terrorcons had found them. Noah was given the Key and told to find somewhere to hide. The two of them ran, then Noah threw the key on the ground and aimed his cannon at it. Optimus talked him down, and Elena picked the Key up before she was picked up by Airazor and carried off. Elena was dropped in front of Scourge, who took the second half of the Key. Primal showed up, having given chase, but was attacked by Airazor before Scourge left. Elena momentarily talked Airazor down before the infection fully took her, and Primal was forced to kill her.

The Autobots and Maximals regrouped and began discussing how to take down Scourge. When Primal lamented how the Key's access code had died with Airazor, Elena revealed it hadn't, and that she had written down the symbols from the statuette and the temple. With the code united, the group formed the plan, where Noah and Elena snuck in through the access tunnels while the rest fought the army. With Scourge being distracted by Mirage, Noah, and Optimus, Elena was able to deal with Novakane, get to the control panel and input the access code. Unfortunately, Scourge shot the panel, destroying it and any chance of stopping the Key. Optimus volunteered to destroy the Key, but Elena didn't want to leave him, and had to be driven away by Bumblebee. After the Key was destroyed and Unicron was beaten back, the Autobots and Maximals regrouped one final time before heading home, where Elena was credited and featured on 60 Minutes for her discovery of the temple and catacombs.
