He started in the 1940s, drawing Captain Codfish, and began freelancing for Fawcett Comics and Timely Comics (later Marvel Comics) before working for DC. He worked on many of the big-name comic books, including Captain America, Captain Marvel, Green Lantern, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and a significant number of Batman comics. He also drew the syndicated comic strip Mary Worth from 1991 to 2016.
