The second phase of the Speedia 500 gains some interesting contestants.
Synopsis
[edit]It's the second week of the Speedia 500 to determine the leader of the planet Velocitron. Cosmos is still hosting, and notes the emergence of three mysterious black racers—two race cars and... a locomotive? The previous racers are surprised at this intrusion into their race.
One of the black race cars reveals himself to be Shadowstrip, an expert in dark courses who shoots out the lights in the tunnel he's travelling through. Bragging of having obtained the power of shadow, Shadowstrip claims that the darker it gets, the more powerful he is. He's interrupted before he can reach the goal, though, by Crasher creating powerful earthquakes that cause the shadowy Decepticon and Clampdown (with Miko Tezuka inside) to fall into a newly created crack in the ground.
The remaining new racer easily foils Crasher's plan by revealing his space shuttle mode to fly over the crack. Proclaiming this triple changing ability his new power obtained after a remodel, the space shuttle reveals himself as Galaxy Shuttle and he goes on to win the race! The other racers aren't appreciative that this intruder went on to win, but things become more chaotic as many Transformers who were spectating join in for a new race!
Meanwhile, Dia is arrested by Dia Burnout.

Notes
[edit]Transformers references
[edit]- Along with many other Legacy characters, Nemesis Leo Prime can be spotted in the stands... or can he? He's shown feeding his beast head a small boulder, indicating that the toy has actually been repurposed as the similar-looking Dark Amber Leo Prime from author Hayato Sakamoto's contemporary work on the Masterpiece toyline. He stands near fellow evil clone Nemesis Prime.
- Crankcase shows fear of Tarn, referencing his encounters with the Decepticon Justice Division as part of the Scavengers in the 2005 IDW continuity.
- Prowl appears with an AllSpark fragment embedded in his hood, suggesting that he's been resurrected in the same way as his universe's Starscream after his climactic death in "Endgame, Part II".
- Skyquake is also seen in the crowd reattaching his arm, implying a resurrection and connection of his wayward arm after the events of "Shadowzone".
- Unlike the other spectators, Jhiaxus is shown in a seated position, referring to his fondness for sitting on his throne in the Generation 2 comic.
- Dragstrip is hidden in shadow in the crowd shot, perhaps implying Shadowstrip is more than meets the eye.
- Skids attempts to spray Kickback and Shrapnel with robotic insecticide, referring to the episode "Quest for Survival" and its Legends sequel.
- Road Rage stands above Crosscut, as per her original function as the ambassador's bodyguard.
- Hot Shot and Starscream stand together, with the former wielding the Star Saber, referring to the period in the Armada cartoon where the Decepticon joined up with the Autobots.
Other trivia
[edit]- While the comic is evasive regarding Crasher's origins, her face and hands are drawn based on her Challenge of the GoBots design, and she features her earthquake ability from said cartoon.
- Similar to the previous issue, the comic features the entire TakaraTomy Legacy toyline at the time of release (except for Buzzsaw, if you want to be pedantic).
- Hot Shot now sports the design of his Legacy: Evolution toy, instead of his previous toy depicted in the last two issues.
- Arcee is based on her Prime cartoon design, as opposed to the Legacy toy from the previous issue.
- The trophy held by Elita at the finish line is the same seen in the Cybertron episodes "Hero" and "Champion".
