One of the recurring elements of toy bios is the characters' function, typically a one-to-two-word encapsulation of the character's "job" on their team.

The franchises featured Functions as part of characters' bios from the beginning. The Armada toyline was the first not to regularly include it as part of the character's description. From that point on they were mostly absent from main line releases, until the Transformers: Prime Cyberverse toys brought them back, partnered with the character names on the front of the packaging.
