Little Serow is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Though a simple soldier in the Great War for planet Beast, Little Serow (リトルセロウ Ritoru Serō) has risen to the rank of King of Palmyra. A Beastformer known for his calm and rational decision-making, he works well with his subordinate Emperor Demonkey, taking his read on people and thinking through the best outcomes.

But Serow is far from all business. He's a music lover, and can play any instrument he gets his hooves on.

In battle, Serow wields the Serow Carbine (セロウカービン Serō Kābin), a rifle that manipulates the gravity of its target, causing it (or them!) to float in air. A good shot can even effectively nullify its gravity, making it incredibly easy to send them flying.

Little Serow is an anthropomorphic serow in high-tech red armor. He comes with his "Serow Carbine" bayonet-equipped rifle. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when warmed up.
Though a common release in the Hasbro Battle Beasts line, he was only available in the Takara post-Transformers "RPG"-themed Beastformers line as part of the "Perfect 6-Piece Set" (パーフェクト6体セット Pāfekuto 6 Tai Setto, the English text on the packaging renders it as "Beastformer 6 Animals Set") multi-pack.... but he was not always actually in it.
Five of the six slots in this box set will always have the exclusive Crystal Killer Fish, plus the "common" Beastformers Baboon, Cobrander, Eagle Killer, and Shield Dragon. The sixth would be either Little Serow or Demonkey, who was also only available in this set, meaning you'd need to buy two for a complete collection. Thankfully, a panel on the bottom-right corner of the box back tells the buyer which six figures are in that set, so at least it's not blind luck this time.
Later in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. It is uncertain if the box set toys got these new stickers or not. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line, thus, the picture to the right.)

Notes

[edit]
  • Despite the similar names, no relation between Little Serow and Big Serow has ever been established or even hinted at.
  • Little Serow's "land warrior" role comes from various 1987 Transformers: Beastformers character/toy checklists, despite him not actually being sold in the '87 line.
  • Speaking of, the 1987 character poster art (seen at the top of this page) incorrectly colors his rifle silver. His recolored '88 bio card corrects this error.
  • Said bio card gives him the imaginative nickname "Serow" (セロウ Serō).
