Orbs are a bunch of alien slavers who capture robots to use as labour. Their primary interest is mining death crystals on planet Dread—a hazardous task at best, due to the shrikebats inhabiting the cave, and the ever-present threat of a visit by Chaos himself.
Fiction

[edit]A group of Orbs armed with electrified spears captured Kup and led him back to their mine in Queeg Mountain, where he was put to work mining death crystals with the hundreds of other slave robots. It wasn't until a visit by Chaos disrupted things that Kup was able to escape, though he was unable to free any of the Orbs' prisoners.
On their journey to Dread, Blurr worried that the Orbs might still be there as he wasn't too keen on meeting them, but Kup told him he should be more worried about Decepticons. As it turned out, the Orbs were long gone, though their slave labour was still there and being utilised as miners by Galvatron. Chaos
Notes
[edit]- In the initial outline for Chaos, Kup was instead imprisoned by the Quintessons eons ago. It's possible that the Orbs were created to maintain continuity as none of the modern Transformers were supposed to be aware of Quintessons until the events of the movie.
- A cut line in the dialogue script reveals that in the present day Skuxxoid won the map to Dread in a game of dice with the Orbs.
