He looked as grizzled as he sounded.

Seizō Katō (加藤 精三 Katō Seizō February 14, 1927-January 17, 2014) was a veteran Japanese voice actor who worked for Haikyo. Some of his most notable roles include Count Magnus Lee from Vampire Hunter D, Dr. Barcas from The Guyver, Ittetsu Hoshi from Star of the Giants, Gamo Whiskey from Cyborg 009, Hazanko from Outlaw Star, Kristopher McLaughlin from Case Closed, Alien Mephilas from the Ultra Series, Father Cornello from FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Mother from Tokyo Godfather, Grim Reaper Earl Bolstak from Trigun, Great Satan from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, and a one-off stint as Inspector Zenigata in Lupin III: The Fuma Conspiracy.

In the world of dubbing, he played Shere Khan in Disney's animated The Jungle Book, Master Control Program in the Fuji TV dub of Tron, Emperor D'ken in the TV Tokyo dub of Saban's X-Men, and Dr. Herbert Higginbotham in Little Big Planet 2.

Katō died of complications from bladder cancer at the age of 86.[1]

  • Despite retiring from the role in 2007, Katō would deign to play a parody of Megatron called "Mesutron" (メストロン, "Minge-atron" in the dub) in the seventh episode of 2010's Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, "Trans-homers". When one hears the age in his voice, being 80 at the time, they can see why he declined the opportunity to continue playing Megatron. Tesshō Genda played a parody of Optimus Prime in that same episode.
