His wings gimmick are activated by a tab that can be pushed down on his tail, first causing his wings to go from a position where they are resting on either side of his body, to a stance where his wings are now perpendicular to their original position. Pushing the tab on his tail further causes the four segments composing the majority of his wings to spread out, leading to a stance giving the impression that Tobias is in mid-flight. His talon gimmick on both feet involve pushing his rear talons to cause the ones in the front to flip backwards, closing his grip. Both of these gimmicks are accessible in all modes, and must be reset manually. Tobias also features an articulated beak in beast mode. His transformation is fairly simply; it involves reversing his knees, opening the hawk's chest cavity revealing the two human arms, followed by flipping the bird's head within the body, revealing the human mode head and chest. It is at this final stage that one can choose to either utilize the figures half-way or fully human head, as they are on opposite sides of a spin-dial like device. What results in either case, is far from what one would call a convincing human mode, as the figures wings, tail, talons, as well as most of the hawk's body is in plain sight.

* Tobias's Mega class toy doesn't even acknowledge that he can fully morph into a human form. Instead, the packaging only claims that he can change from "RAPTOR HAWK to mid-morph HUMAN." The toy's packaging art (seen to the right) follows suit by portraying Tobias in a halfway point in his morphing process. It seems that at least someone at Hasbro was aware of the Animorphs' toys... questionable aesthetic.

* All of Tobias's toys represent the same range of modes, converting from human to hawk.  This is hardly unusual in ''Transformers'', but unique among ''Animorphs'' characters in particular (and makes it seem a bit odd that he got two toys at all while [[Rachel]] only got one).

Tobias is a human or animal from the Animorphs continuity.
"OH MY GOD, WE'RE HAVING A FIRE! sale."

Tobias, a born dreamer, is an Animorph without the "morph" part: he turned into a raptor hawk and got stuck that way. Brilliant. Before the Yeerks came to Earth, he often fantasized of taking to the skies, and leaving all of his problems behind. But he confesses that the Yeerks are his worst nightmare, something he can't run away from. Facing an alien invasion, Tobias now views himself as a "one-bird air force," necessary to thwart the encroaching conquerors. Tobias's only known animal form is, naturally, a hawk.

  • Tobias (Mega, 1999)
Tobias's second retail toy transforms from a raptor hawk to a more human-like form. He also features a transitional third mode, which is simply his more human form with an alternate head, featuring a blend of human and hawk features, whereas his main head is fully human in appearance.
While he possesses no accessories, he features two spring-loaded gimmicks: two-stage "blast-open WINGS" and gripping talons.

Notes

[edit]
On second thought, I'd rather just stay a bird for the rest of my life.
  • Tobias's Mega class toy doesn't even acknowledge that he can fully morph into a human form.
  • Tobias's deluxe toy's packaging art is based on the actor that portrayed him in the Animorphs television series, Christopher Ralph.
