Mega-Dinobot is an Autobot combiner from the Energon portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
"There never was a Dinobot combiner."

Mega-Dinobot is the combined form of the heavy-assault Autobots Grimlock and Swoop. Though the two greatly enjoy splitting up to confuse and crush the Decepticons, Mega-Dinobot mode is perfect for taking out anyone who managed to survive the initial onslaught.

  • Grimlock & Swoop (Mega Class, 2005)
Released in the fourth wave of Hasbro's Energon Mega Class toys, Mega-Dinobot combines the individuals Grimlock and Swoop into a single robot mode. Both components came in a single Mega-class multi-pack.
This set suffers from a design flaw; the clip that connects Grimlock to Swoop is shaped incorrectly for holding up Grimlock, which causes the torso to slump back when in combined mode. Given how top-heavy Mega-Dinobot is, and how Swoop does not peg securely in any way in leg mode, this makes him very hard to keep upright without doing involuntary splits or teetering over backwards. Furthermore, the combined mode head is restricted from turning by a single small block molded on to an otherwise fully functional neck swivel; slicing it out will restore Mega-Dinobot's ability to look around.
While not technically a design flaw, his fist-holes are smaller than the then-standard 5 mm size most Transformers toys used to hold accessories.
This set was originally intended to be released in the 2003 Universe line, as the original Generation 1 incarnations. However, a variety of factors shuffled the set into Energon and new-character-dom on this wiki. This set was not designed or engineered by Takara employees, being created from start to finish by Hasbro, a rarity for normal-series Transformers toys.
