At no point in the original G1 cartoon or original G1 comic was the mother of Spike (and Buster) and wife of Sparkplug ever seen or mentioned (though the Sunbow cartoon production bible did state that Sparkplug is a widower[1]). Her debut in IDW's comics in 2008 is a first for the Transformers brand.
