William Oates was serving under Captain [[Cartwright]] at the Udeid Air Base in Qatar when the group was assigned to team up with Ironhide to take out [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]], one of the loose ends left-over from the recent Autobot-Decepticon conflict. Scorponok managed to surprise the group however, and took control of Ironhide's body, sending the humans fleeing.
