A hoverboard is a piece of equipment that the user stands on in order to travel around by hovering above the ground.

The Transformers cartoon
While fishing with Hot Rod, Daniel Witwicky picked up the signal of an Autobot shuttle on his hand-held scanner. He excitedly raced off on his hoverboard to watch it land.
