The mine was discovered and occupied by the Decepticons during Megatron's three years in space. After the majority of the energon crystals had been extracted, Starscream ordered operations moved elsewhere, leaving behind a few drilling machines so he could use the mine as a personal stockpile of energon.

- Arcee estimated that the mine had been abandoned for four or five years, although Starscream later said that the mine was abandoned while Megatron was travelling through space, placing it during the last three years.
