Data slug

Data slugs are a type of storage media from the IDW portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Fragile. Do not bend.

A data slug is a small, rectangular object which can store significant quantities of information in a small, compact package.

In the past, Transformers with data slug alternate modes were common to the point of ubiquity. When the Functionist Council rose to prominence and instated the Grand Cybertronian Taxonomy, data slug Cybertronians were deemed members of the "disposable class". Before & After

Ironfist, knowing he didn't have long to live, transferred the Aequitas data onto a single data slug, which was given to Prowl by Ultra Magnus. Prowl was tempted to destroy the slug, and with it, all the evidence of Autobot crimes it contained Last Stand of the Wreckers #5, but he apparently resisted temptation, as it was later seen intact on his desk. The Functionist Universe

In a timeline where the Functionist Council had conquered the planet, the Council decided data slug Transformers and their ability to store vast amounts of information posed a threat to the Council's ability to rule. Notes

• Unlike a floppy disk, there is no evidence a single data slug can store a Transformer's entire core consciousness.
