The flight stand is a figure mounting system used for displaying action figures in mid-air, rather than standing on a surface. This allows them to be supported in poses that would otherwise be impossible if the figures were balanced on their own. Some Transformers toys have hexagonal/circular flight stand ports that allow them to be directly fitted onto standardized 3mm flight stand joints.
