Canonizing is the act of inserting a previously apocryphal or pseudocanonical bit of fancruft or omitted authorial intent into canon. It's kind of like fanservice for continuity freaks.

  1. This fan theory has yet to appear in full, unabridged form. In 2013, Beast Wars Shattered Glass depicted Pretender technology as an element in the invention of organic beast modes, sans downsizing. In 2015 and 2016, Beast Wars: Uprising depicted Micromaster physiology as a precursor to small-sized Maximals and Predacons, with beast modes being developed separately.
  2. Terrorsaur speaks the metaphorical line "Welcome to the dark side." in the 1996 episode "Equal Measures", but fan clamor led to this usage being canonized as a proper noun in the 2000 Beast Wars Transmetals N64 game.
  3. Bluestreak used "rain maker" as a generic description in the 1985 episode "Divide and Conquer", but fan interpretation as a proper noun led to canonization in the 2008 packaging bio for Universe Acid Storm.
  4. "Seeker" debuted in 1980s retail catalogs, but this source was evidently forgotten even as the term became ubiquitous in the 1990s online fandom, leading to prevalent use in 21st century official material.
  5. The term "sparkmate" debuted in a minor feature in the 2000 Beast Wars Transmetals N64 game, but persistent usage in the fandom led to its use by graduated fans in The AllSpark Almanac and More than Meets the Eye.
