- A Transition form is a stage of Transformer physiology from the live action movie continuity family.
A Transition form is a comet or meteor-like elongated ellipsoid form that a protoform stage Transformer can change into for interstellar travel. Transition forms are heavily armored and capable of space flight over extended distances.
Naturally metallic and frequently engraved with unknown writing in the Transformers' own language the transition form picks up a coating of space dust and debris as it travels the galaxy. This rocky material forms a rough crust over the surface of the Transformer to better complete the "meteor" disguise.
After making (mostly) controlled planetfall, the traveling Transformer changes back to his humanoid protoform mode and immediately begins trans-scanning for a new exostructure/disguise. [1]
Toys
- Protoform Optimus Prime
Based upon the "Protoform" (Cybertronian) appearances of the Transformers in the Movie, Protoform Optimus Prime transforms into his "entry" mode. This mode somewhat resembles a cybertronic truck, with false wheels sculpted onto the sides and Optimus Prime's trademark windows in front. A flame decoration piece fits onto the back of the "vehicle", creating the illusion of a flaming comet's tail. The bottom of the vehicle has small wheels to roll the toy across smooth surfaces. Oddly, it has NO automorph gimmick at all, a feature most main-line figures have. In robot mode, he resembles previous Optimus characters; his angular chest windows are reminiscent of Cybertron Optimus Prime, while his somewhat animalistic limbs and color scheme are evocative of Beast Wars Optimus Primal. He has excellent articulation due to his many ball joints and is armed with a rifle. The flame attachment can fit onto the end of the (non-firing) gun barrel. Some packaging variants of this figure (perhaps a Wal-Mart exclusive) included a free movie poster depicting a Cybertronian eye overlooking Earth. While an added sticker to the outer plastic bubble says "Exclusive movie poster!", it is more of a preview of upcoming figures.
- Protoform Starscream
- Trans Scanning Bumblebee
- Trans Scanning Optimus Prime
Japanese-only releases, these figures are able to transform into the Protoform, Transition, and Earth forms of their respective robots by utilizing snap-on armor.
