Communications over vast interstellar distances can be tedious due to the finite speed with which radio signals can be transmitted. However, a tachyon transmitter which takes advantage of a family of particles that travel faster than light allows instantaneous subspace communication between distant terminals.
Autobot ships are normally outfitted with these transmitters. Ultra Magnus's ship had its transmitter mounted to the underside of its hull.
