Professor Sumdac created the Dinobots by transforming 3 theme park attractions into sentient robots. They then went nuts and tried to kill the Autobots. So things haven't really changed much in the last 23 something years.
Grimlock and the Dinobots were originally animatronic figures at the [[Dino Drive]] theme park, who were badly damaged by the clumsy Autobot [[Bulkhead]]. The remains were brought to [[Isaac Sumdac]]'s lab for repair, where the disembodied [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] took an interest in them, and attempted to turn them into robotic attack drones as practise for re-creating his own body. Now equipped with destructive fire-breathing abilities, Grimlock and the Dinobots went on a rampage at Dino Drive, but were restrained by the Autobots when [[Ratchet (Animated)|Ratchet]] and [[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] held them in an electromagnetic field. Thinking to use her [[All Spark (Animated)|All Spark]] key to help her Autobots friends' by boosting their powers, [[Sari Sumdac|Sari]] plugged it into Bumblebee's weapons systems, but this only resulted in the Dinobots being blasted with All Spark energy.
After their defeat, they were imprisoned in an energy caged but freed by Prowl, who thought they had life and were not just some machines, with the help of Bulkhead. The Dinobots are now in an island, frolicking around. Grimlock believes cars are bad but nature is good...until two birds pooped on him, and begins to hate nature and discovers he can transform. {{storylink|Blast from the Past}}

When they came online, Grimlock dubbed himself the Dinobot leader, despite Megatron's commands. However, [[Tutor Bot]] brought up videos on how cars use fossil fuels. Grimlock believed that this to meant that cars ate [[Dinosaur]]s, and Megatron convinced them to destroy the "fossil feeders", including the only thing worse than cars...cars and trucks that turn into robots.

The Dinobots are an Autobot subgroup in the Animated continuity family.

The Dinobots are a three-member subgroup consisting of Grimlock, Swoop, and Slag. They are gonna be three wild and crazy guys. With funny speech patterns. Cooool.
