Let's see what you can see...

This article is in need of images.

Have you seen me?

This character or person needs some sort of visual representation. If you have one, please replace this.

Ultragas (ウルトラガス Urutoragasu) loves surprises. He adores being the center of attention and creating mischief. You can probably guess how he goes about this. An entertainer before the war for planet Beast, he specializes in lowbrow humor and pranks, using his incredible ninja-like stealth to sneak up behind the unsuspecting. This walking chemical factory can then use his Air Changer (エアーチェンジャー Eā Chenjā) blade to alter the density and chemical compositions of gases, and hit his victim with a cloud of something stinky... or worse.

It was these sneaky skills that got him recruited into Alligatron's army, where he was employed as a spy. During this time, his jokes became crueler and crueler, as he found delight in tormenting the weak.

Following the war, he returned to being the smelly prankster entertainer, but with the mean-spiritedness back in check. He now serves as the Emperor of Rhodes under the outwardly-gloomy King Undergroun. Undergroun's kind and thoughtful nature has rubbed off on the skunk, and he's proven to be a very helpful beast. The two even have a telepathic link, enabling the two to work in tandem even as the mole is deep underground.

Toys

Transformers: Beastformers

  • Ultragas (Beastformer, 1987)
    • Beast ID number: 52
    • Accessories: Sword
Part of the second series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Ultragas is a lavender anthopomorphic skunk in black robotic armor. The rubsign on his chest reveals one of three symbols; Fire, Water or Wood.
He came in a green-grid generic "Destron Beastformer" box, with a bio card with a painted character image on a jungle backdrop. Re-released in Series 3, the box was unchanged, but the bio card replaced the painted image with a simpler line-art image, first used in Hasbro's Battle Beasts cast poster. In both Series, depending on the "Pack" he came in, there was a chance of his bio card being replaced with a rare "Secret Photo", "Bewitching Serpent Seal", or "VS Holography Mirror" card.

Beastformers

  • Ultragas (Beastformer, 1988)
    • Beast ID number: 52
    • Accessories: "Air Changer" MVP Weapon
Re-released in the Transformers-less Beastformers sequel series, Ultragas was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with corrected coloring. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Air Changer" (エアーチェンジャー Eā Chenjā).
He was sold in two similar-but-different styles of boxes. One wholly-generic version, sold in large display boxes like the Transformers releases, advertised the chance for the included bio card to instead be a rare holofoil card of White Leo with a "Burstsun" rubsign in a baggie taped to the back, so you could apply it to the Beastformer of your choice. The more common version has a slightly different box with a peg-hole in the top flap, and has a sticker on the bottom with his name and role on it.
Late in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Notes

  • Ultragas's 1987 character-checklist art reverses his colors, giving him black fur with lavender armor, and colors his sword silver. His 1988 art corrects these errors.
  • His 1988 bio card gives him the nickname "Hēsuke" (へースケ), which needs a little unpacking. "-suke" is a common ending for Japanese surnames, while he (屁) is one of the words for "fart". Thus, "Hēsuke" is roughly the Japanese equivalent of "Fartbert".
