After [[Optimus Prime (G1)#Prime Wars Trilogy Cartoons|Optimus Prime]] died to [[Megatronus]], who spilled his master plan to resurrect his beloved [[Solus Prime]] at the cost of [[Cybertron]]'s population, [[Megatron]] hit on the idea to go beat him to the [[Requiem Blaster (Megatronus)|Requiem Blaster]], the only artifact of the three required for the Fallen Prime's plan that was still up for grabs. After consulting some religious scrolls, Megatron, [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]], a one-armed [[Victorion]], and [[Windblade (G1)#PrimeWarsTrilogyCartoons|Windblade]] went on their merry way to the Primal Swamps. After walking through some metal poles that looks suspiciously like robot bamboo and giant metallic grass, they were ambushed by the Dinobots. After tossing them around a bit, the attackers combined into [[Volcanicus (POTP)|Volcanicus]]. [[File:Machinima-POTP-Volcanicus-punches-Windblade.jpg|thumb|right|250px|Oh HELL no, I'm outta here]] He promptly wiped the floor with them, demanding the [[Enigma of Combination]], thinking he would need it for the looming apocalypse. Fortunately, [[Predaking (G1)|Predaking]] soon arrived for the same reason, and the two combiners scrapped with each other over territory and Enigma rights. This provided an excellent opportunity for the Old, Smart, Big, and Righteous crew to get out of Dodge. The two combiners noticed this, however, and Volcanicus came running, Predaking hot on his heels. Megatron came across a dome decorated with the symbols of the [[Thirteen Primes]]. Meanwhile, the rest of the Smart, Big, and Righteous crew were cornered and outgunned. Cowed, the combiner retreated, only after Megatron promised to let him know when they found the Enigma of Combination. Soon after, Grimlock decided to join the now Old, Smart, Big, Righteous, and Prehistoric crew to find the Athenaeum Sanctorum. A short while after they set off, [[Overlord (G1)|Overlord]] and a corrupted [[Hot Rod (G1)|Rodimus Unicronus]], fresh from interrogating/murdering [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]], [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]], and [[Computron (G1)|Computron]] (He died twice now), decided to do the same to the Dinobots for info on the quest group's whereabouts. They got it from [[Snarl (G1)|Snark]], and Overlord released his lot. [[Rodimus Unicronus]] just decided to snap Sludge's neck to prove a point. Much later, after Megtronus's defeat, Optimus Prime's resurrection, Optimal Optimus's upgrade, Hot Rod's purification, and Megatron plus Predaking's collective demise, the Dinobots were seen in the Primal Swamp mourning Sludge's death. {-O-}

The Book of the Second Prophecies indicated that the Requiem Blaster, the last relic Megatronus needed for his plan to drain the sparks from all Transformers and resurrect Solus Prime, was hidden somewhere in Primal Swamp. Armed with this knowledge, Megatron led Perceptor, Victorion, and Windblade there to find it first. There, they were ambushed by the Dinobots, who assumed Megatron to be responsible for the coming apocalypse and attacked them, eventually combining into Volcanicus. The Swamp Volcanicus quickly gained the upper hand, only for the matter to be further complicated by the arrival of Predaking, who had come to the Swamp seeking the Enigma of Combination. Volcanicus As the two combiners alternated between fighting each other and the others, Megatron slipped away and located a large dome bearing the symbols of the Primes. Without Warning The battle briefly paused as the others watched him enter the dome, but the combiners soon resumed fighting, with Predaking eventually overpowering Volcanicus and knocking him into an energon pool. Before he could attack the others, Megatron re-emerged with the Blaster, followed by its guardian Optimus Primal, and convinced Predaking to stand down.
