It was a simultaneous Japanese release of [[Hasbro]]'s own 1986 product line, and was the first instance of what would become [[Takara]]'s standard method of operation—the annual rebranding of the franchise with a new sub-title. It accompanied the fictional shift of the animated series from the present day to the 21st century, but while the original American version of the series took place over 2005/06, the Japanese version advanced the setting to 2010, hence the line's new name.

Galvatron, Scourge, and Cyclonus travel from the year 2006 back to 1986 to put into place a plan that will destroy Unicron in their own time! Unfortunately, their presence in 1986 shunts Optimus Prime and other high-ranking Autobots into limbo.

And on Cybertron, Impactor's Autobot special ops team, the Wreckers, are about to enact a mission that may tip the balance of power on Cybertron forever. But when Optimus Prime's disappearance jeopardizes it completely, Ultra Magnus is sent to Earth to investigate.

Without a leader, and up against an impossibly powerful and evil foe who possesses the power of a god, the Autobots are in disarray and find themselves hopelessly outmatched. And when Ultra Magnus refuses to help, will they have to turn to...Megatron?

Galvatron. Ultra Magnus. Cyclonus. Scourge. Hot Rod. Kup. Blurr. Springer. All these characters and more are introduced for the first time in "Target 2006." It was the Marvel UK epic that started it all, featuring a new depth in storytelling that future stories would try to match.
