Gus and his colleague Mel had to get to a cardiac arrest case, so the two took the only ambulance available at the time, which was Ratchet, and sped off. The Last Stand It turned out to be a false alarm, the patient merely suffering from what they diagnosed as "an overdose of hot mustard". The situation thus under control, Gus and Mel drove back to the hospital where they arrived just as Buster Witwicky was looking for Ratchet. The boy and Autobot began to discuss past events, greatly confusing the paramedics when their ambulance suddenly talked. Rather than asking either the boy or ambulance what was going on, Gus and Mel began to search the vehicle from front to end for a tape deck or other such device. Eventually, this became too much for Ratchet, who scolded them for their bad manners. Gus and Mel ran off to a safe distance, telling each other it was just a trick. The New Order
