Oil Slick was one of the dissatisfied Mini-Cons recruited by Broadside to oppose the return of the Autobots to Cybertron. Along with his partners Grindor and Dirt Rocket, Oil Slick snuck into the trans-hyperwave caster tower to change the Data-Con signal being broadcast into space. By altering the message to declare Cybertron quarantined, Broadside's followers hoped to deter the bulks from returning.

Unfortunately, they were caught by the suspicious Dinobot, Hacksaw. Oil Slick's boys triple-teamed Hacksaw, but a combination of brute strength and dirty fighting carried the Dinobot through the battle. Broadside arrived and had his own fierce (and climactic) fight with Hacksaw, but by then the damage had been done...no new signal would be broadcast. Broadside ordered Oil Slick and the Dirt Digger Team to go underground while he tried to find a way to spin the night's events to his advantage. The New World
