Released towards the end of the European Generation 1 toyline, the Lightformers' (and Trakkons') big gimmick were gun platforms that could be mounted on the figures in vehicle mode or manned in robot mode. The Lightformers were again available as part of the Generation 2 toyline a year later. The toys themselves were identical to their earlier versions, but were now packaged in Generation 2-themed blister cards instead of Generation 1 boxes.
