The Undermind is a vast zombie intelligence composed of many, many minds. By turning more beings into zombies, it adds their intelligence and knowledge to its own, gaining the benefit of their technology. In this way, it can spread out to take over whole realities and even span the divide into other universes. It can even warp the minds of the unassimilated, altering their view of reality to suit itself. Resistance is futile.
