Cyber-matter is a metallic substance that coats the surface of Cybertron and has been present since primordial times.

Megatron's Earth fortress of Darkmount was constructed of cyber-matter formed from the Omega Lock. At the Project Predacon site, Team Prime moved to attack and destroy the growing Predacons. This led to the destruction of the cloning project along with a supply of Synthetic Energon. The mixture of Predacon CNA with Synthetic Energon led to the creation of a supply of cyber-matter in the ruined base. Evolution

Finding the resulting product to be unstable, Megatron tasked Shockwave with perfecting it, planning to use it and a reconstructed Omega Lock to cyberform Earth and Cybertron. To this end, they kidnapped Ratchet, from who they had obtained the original formula for synthetic energon. Megatron convinced Ratchet to aid in completing the formula to revitalize their homeworld.
