Planicron

The Planicrons are a species from the Alternity continuity.

The Planicrons (プラニクロン Puranikuron) are natives of the two-dimensional universe known as Flatworld, and are in fact, their universe's version of the Transformers. As a result of their attempt to evolve beyond their two-dimensional existence, they have become the first Transformers to actually achieve the race's mantra of "'Til all are one"—the super-spatial theories and warp technology they have developed for simple communication have ultimately wound up fusing the entire race into one gestalt consciousness, which has in turn become bonded to the very forces of their universe itself. Together, the fused Planicrons have become a living cosmic phenomenon, the embodiment of their reality, dubbed the "Cosmic Driver". The next step in their evolution is to move beyond two-dimensional existence, into the worlds above, but because the universes above are often already inhabited, the extrusion of two-dimensional life into them frequently upsets them on a fundamental level, disrupting two-dimensional concepts crucial in the everyday lives of three-dimensional species. And unfortunately for the Planicrons, it also means they have caught the eye of Megatron...

Fiction

Alternity

In order to evolve themselves beyond two dimensions, the Planicrons knew it was necessary to pass through a particular "gateway" of sorts into a higher universe. Unfortunately, they had no idea which universe this gateway could be found in, and took a stab in the dark, Alternation attempting to extrude themselves into universal stream Primax 905.0 Beta via a magical tablet in an art museum. They had selected incorrectly, and their incursion disrupted the operation of written language itself in that universe, attracting the attention of both the Alternity and Megatron and causing a conflict which destroyed the tablet and denied them entry to that universe. The World Is Flat!

Megatron had his Questors begin seeking out ways to access Flatworld, and Skywarp successfully found another tablet somewhere in the multiverse. Hunt for the Planicrons Using the tablet, Megatron was able to seize control of the Cosmic Driver, and used the Planicrons to attack the Alternity's higher-dimensional forces, destroying the advanced Autobots' gestalt consciousnesses and rendering them individual beings once again. Megatron's control of the Planicrons proved short-lived, however, as Thundercracker, unable to bear the Planicrons' defencelessness, used another tablet to liberate them from his leader. Subsequently, the freed Planicrons communicated with the Alternity's ally Vector Prime, and informed him of their quest for the gateway. Vector Prime passed this information along to the Alternity, and Bumblebee deduced that the gateway must be in Primax 903.0 Beta, the "BT World", origin universe of the Alternity themselves.

Bumblebee, Elita Seven, and Nemesis Prime headed to the BT World and rendezvoused with Optimus Primal and Grimlock, who informed them that they had located the "doorway": it was the circuit diagram of the Critias Gate, the incomplete super-dimensional reactor the Autobots had been experimenting with at the same time as the Timaeus Project that had birthed the Alternity. Setting up a giant projection of this diagram, the Autobots opened the way for the Planicrons, who were led through the gate by Vector Prime and began evolving into three-dimensional forms, and then beyond, into a higher-dimensional state. Before crossing over entirely, the Planicrons were attacked by a raging Megatron, but they struck back using the same attack he had made them use against the Alternity, and obliterated his gestalt consciousness in one blast. With Megatron destroyed, the Planicrons then completed their evolution into higher-dimensional begins, and took the Alternity's place as the guardians of time and space, now nicknamed the "Flaternity".
