Bolt-bats are a form of wildlife native to both Cybertron and Nebulos. They presumably are easily shocked and amazed by new sights.

The Transformers cartoon
Sideswipe refers to Cybertronic bolt-bats, implying that there are also bolt-bats native to other planets. S.O.S. Dinobots
The Headmasters cartoon
While traversing the tunnels to place a bomb at Vector Sigma, Mindwipe was attacked by a swarm of giant bolt-bats. Mindwipe pleaded with them to stop attacking a fellow bat to little effect and fell down a flight of stairs to escape the animals. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2
Beast Wars: Uprising

- The AllSpark Almanac II declared Skar to be a Nebulan bolt-bat.
- The bolt-bats in The Headmasters were not named in the episode, only being called "denki kōmori" (電機コウモリ, "electric bat") on the model sheet.
