Soundwave and Laserbeak have dark designs for the Dead Matrix.
Synopsis
Outside the Archives on Cybertron, Soundwave releases Laserbeak to steal the Dead Matrix. The avian drone burns a whole through the wall, hacking into the computers at the Archive to find the Dead Matrix's location, and uses his stealth field to bypass the Autoguns. Returning to Soundwave, they travel to the event horizon of the Unicron Singularity, and using his abilities to access certain sub-harmonic frequencies, Soundwave throws the Matrix into the black hole. A glowing green rock emerges from the black hole, declaring himself free.
Landing 700 light years away on the planet Yst, the dark energies of the rock begin to corrupt the planet around it. On a farm, two men who witnessed the rock's entry into atmosphere begin to fight, as the livestock begin to devour each other. One holds the other down, and bashes the others head in. Standing over his friends corpse, he feels hungry...
In the capital city, cars lay strewn across the street; men fire upon innocent civilians; pets devour owners and owners devour pets. A women, having eaten everything in her home, eats the soil from plotted plants. A man attempts to eat the walls of his house. And in the equatorial rainforests, fires range, trees are reduced to stumps, and men die in the mud. The planet's begins to shrink, as the darkness's mass pulls it in. And as the last Ystian dies, the planet cracks like a celestial egg.
Unicron lives again.

Notes
- This chapter is...quite dark. Aside from implied cannibalism, the events in the city, while not shown in high detail, include headshots with a massive amount of blue green blood flying out, a dog eating his owner, visible guts and ribs, and a very small corpse with blood leaking out. In the panel of the man eating the walls of his house, there's an axe sitting next to a picture of a family, with...some kind of stains on the wall.
Transformers notes
- Unicron's back, baby! This time, he's in his Transformers: Cybertron deluxe class body.
- Soundwave in isolation behaves more like the G1 version of the character. His profile entry, included in the same issue, notes that his show persona is an effect he puts on for others due to socialization issues.
Other notes
- It is unknown just how long there was between Unicron's arrival on Yst and its destruction. Assuming that it all still takes place within the timeframe of the Cybertron cartoon's events, it is likely only a few days.
- Soundwave, while throwing the Dark Matrix into the anomaly, is described and depicted as standing right in the event horizon of the black hole. This would be difficult with real physics, but the cartoon already threw that out the window, so oh well.
- Soundwave's color scheme is based upon the animated series CGI model and his Takara release, rather than the Hasbro version's appearance.
Errors
- The Dead Matrix is miscolored to look like the regular Matrix of Leadership
