IDW Generation 1 continuity
Three days out from Caminus, a ship full of Transformers visited Marasma, where the noted actor Vertex was infected by personality ticks. She soon succumbed and collapsed at the controls, crashing the ship into an asteroid near Reuss VII. The remaining Camiens were rescued by the Autobot ship Vis Vitalis and the personality ticks went along with them, turning their attentions to the charismatic Captain Thunderclash. Concerned that their host's long-standing injuries might ultimately kill him, one of the ticks broke cover to heal him before their feeding once more left him in an apparently terminal coma. The Frail Gaze
When the crew of the Lost Light arrived aboard the Vis Vitalis to pay their last respects to Thunderclash, Nightbeat and Getaway started poking around, discovering the still-warm corpse of Countdown being used as an incubator for young personality ticks in the ship's morgue. This forced the adult ticks to reveal themselves and attack. The Sensuous Frame
With the Vis Vitalis now under siege from the creatures, it fell to a small team of Autobots to deduce the ticks' weakness—that they were susceptible to overdosing on charisma—and so Skater, Flex, and Borer summoned Megatron and Rodimus over from the Lost Light. Their combined magnetism was more than the personality ticks could handle and they expired almost immediately after their arrival. The Frail Gaze
