Each recruit gets to train with the ultimate rescue tool, the TX3000, but Hot Shot has never used one before, and his failure to admit his lack of experience almost botches a dangerous rescue.

Synopsis

Cody interrupts the recruits exercising to invite them to movie night, with the choice being either Simians in Space or Skateboard Snakes II. Heatwave calls them to Hero Hall and reveals they have five TX3000s on loan from Cybertron which they'll be able to practice with over the next week. He gives a demonstration of its various functions. While recruits are all enthusiastic, Hot Shot is less so, though he claims to have used a TX3000 before. Heatwave has the recruits use the new tools to stop leaking hydrants, but Hot Shot accidentally hits Heatwave instead, and the next tests don't go much better, with Hot Shot ending up being chased by the rescue beacons he unleashes and then blasting a hole in the ceiling with the device's laser cutter. Heatwave advises the recruits that there'll be a test tomorrow.

The recruits start studying up on the TX3000, but Hot Shot claims he has to go get his "study cushion" and leaves. An hour later, Whirl goes in search of Hot Shot and finds him hiding in some bushes. She concludes that Hot Shot hasn't seen a TX3000 before, but he continues to claim otherwise. The pair join the others in Hero Hall to test their abilities with the device in the Griffin Rock simulation. While the first four recruits score 90%, Hot Shot somehow bumbles through the test and by sheer luck scores a perfect 100%. The other recruits congratulate him until Heatwave tells them that an unmanned train's derailed above Milford, and they'll get to use their TX3000s in an actual rescue—the other recruits nominate Hot Shot leader for the rescue.

Arriving on site, the recruits wait for Hot Shot to suggest a plan, but he manages to freeze the front of the train and then trap himself in a net. The others work together and get the train back on track without him.

Hot Shot confides in Cody that he hadn't heard of the tool before, and Cody gives him a pep talk. The other recruits are later watching movies, and realize that Hot Shot is once again missing-they find him in Hero Hall trying to practice with the TX3000. Their advice helps him with target shooting, and the other recruits quickly join in.
