When the Decepticons built Megatron into a new body, they used his old body to make hundreds of pistols based on his old alt form. They then sent them through a spacebridge, where the weapons landed in Quetzaltengo. Upon crashing outside the city, the weapons burned for days, and continued to glow during the night long after they stopped burning.
