Spasma is a Decepticon-allied Nebulan Headmaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Emomaster.

The nervous and insecure Spasma was the son of a despised noble family on Nebulos, bullied and picked on his entire life while being crushed under the weight of a bankrupt family legacy. The arrival of the Transformers on his planet and the creation of the Headmasters gave him the prospect of power to escape his feeling of inadequacy, or so he thought...

Outwardly, Spasma had his wish fulfilled when he was binary bonded to Apeface, literally becoming the kind of bully who had previously tormented him. But all too frequently, the pressure of combat will wear away at Spasma, until Apeface's actions trigger a torturous flashback from the Nebulan's past, reducing him to a whimpering, crying wreck.

Marvel The Transformers comics

Buy a neckerchief of my own, probably. That thing is darling!

As an anti-Autobot demonstration raged in the streets of Nebulos's capital city of Koraja, Spasma was among the government mucky-mucks and their associates who viewed with trepidation from a balcony. He wondered to World Watchers spokesman Galen wh-what th-they would d-do now. Galen responded that he did not know. Broken Glass! When the Decepticons arrived on the planet, Spasma was kidnapped and imprisoned by them. Lord Zarak made a deal with the Decepticons that involved becoming the Decepticons' Headmaster partners to counter the Autobots' own Headmasters, and Spasma was binary bonded to Apeface. He looked a little uneasy about the whole thing. Nonetheless, he subsequently helped in taking down Fortress Maximus's soldiers in a Decepticon ambush, attempting to tackle down the Autobot leader himself, before he and Apeface brought down a nearby hovercraft housing several delegates from the Council of Peers. Love and Steel!

The Decepticons dominated Nebulos for a time, one of their battles against the Autobots taking them to the Mercury Gardens of Melanossus. There, Spasma acted independently for most of the conflict, until Scorponok called upon him to merge with Apeface for the final push. The Decepticons emerged victorious, with many Autobots slaughtered and the few that escaped fleeing into Nebulos's swamps. Despite their triumph, Spasma stuttered out upon separating from Apeface that he had been worried the whole time. Eventually, Zarak and Galen agreed to move the Autobot/Decepticon war off of their homeworld for its own protection. Brothers in Armor!!

After Ratbat voiced his disgust for organics during a meeting between his troops and those serving under Scorponok, the latter took offense at the comment. He had Zarak reveal his human form to show Ratbat that he was in fact dealing with the very kind of life form he abhorred, with Spasma and the other Decepticon Headmasters following suit. Cold War!

Spasma was a member of the Hive and was bonded to Apeface after Zarak negotiated with Cyclonus and Scourge. Putting on a "tough guy" personality, he reiterated Krunk's warning to the Horrorcons to not get out of line, or they would get mad. To emphasize his point, Spasma spit on the floor, which was apparently some sort of corrosive, as it produced steam from the metal floor. Spasma is truly hardass.

Beast Wars: Uprising

In the Hive's war against the World Watchers, Spasma was an elite trooper who operated Rarigo, a weapon courtesy of the Decepticon-Hive alliance. When the Headmaster program came along, Spasma was binary bonded to Apeface, the power of such pairings escalating the conflict. A Brush With Infamy–Prologue

Commercial appearances

Spasma piloted Apeface's jet mode deep into the canyons of Nebulon. The pair then combined in order to wreck some nearby rock formations. Headmaster Horrorcons commercial

Toys

Generation 1

  • Apeface with Spasma (Headmaster Horrorcon, 1987)
Like his partner, Spasma is a triple changer, transforming from an armored humanoid into Apeface's robot (formed from his legs facing forward) and ape alt-mode (his back facing forward) heads. Though he only came with his partner, in head mode, Spasma is compatible with any other Headmaster body. On the larger Headmasters, he gives three of Apeface's Tech Spec stats in their display window, but the smaller ones still display their normal heads' stats due to their construction.

Bet you didn't think you'd see this name again.
  • Apeface (Voyager Class, 2019)
    • ID number: TBA
A brand new mold, Titan Master Spasma is partnered once more with Apeface, transforming into the head of both his robot and beast modes. He can also form a head for any toy compatible with the Titans Return/Power of the Primes play pattern, but by virtue of having Apeface's face on the back of his legs, he is not necessarily compatible with all Titan Master vehicles.

Notes

  • In the Japanese The Headmasters, Spasma does not exist as a separate entity from Apeface; like all Headmasters, the large robot is just a lifeless Transtector body controlled entirely by the head unit. However, Apeface's head unit is still called "Spasma" when separated from the larger robot body, even though it's the same guy!
