The 2019 IDW continuity serves as the reboot to IDW Publishing's Transformers line as a whole, beginning in March 2019 and running into the foreseeable future. As per tradition, this new iteration of the continuity is a new, separate story, entirely divorced from the 2005 IDW continuity and its decades-long story arc that concluded with 2018's Unicron miniseries. Despite this, however, the continuity has featured an unusually high number of IDW-original returning characters, and many concepts have been mined from its predecessor and adjusted to fit into this new universe.
Unusually for a Transformers story, which generally start in medias res, with the Autobot-Decepticon war well underway, this continuity opens just before chronological beginning of the Great War— the first story to do so since 2010's Exodus novel.
Main titles
Transformers
The primary ongoing comic written by Brian Ruckley, Transformers opens on a peaceful, egalitarian Cybertron rocked by the first murder in living memory—a murder with far-reaching repercussions for both Senator Orion Pax, his allies, and Megatron, the conflicted leader of the self-styled Ascenticons.
Transformers: Galaxies
Transformers: Galaxies serves as a companion piece to the main Transformers ongoing, a spiritual successor of sorts to the Spotlight issues that helped to flesh out original IDW continuity. An anthology of side stories, each new arc features a new creative team, telling stories set far away from Cybertron.
Other releases
Transformers Valentines Day Special - a one-shot to tie in to Valentine's Day, set for release in February 2020.
Collected editions
Eschewing the standard trade paperback format, this continuity is primarily being collected in larger hardbacks, each containing twelve issues. From the second volume onwards these mix together issues of both ongoing titles, collecting the entire continuity in both under a single banner and in publication order from the very start.
