Starscream's plan reaches its endgame, and no one is safe.

Synopsis

Success! Acid Storm has finally managed to use Vector Sigma to send a particular set of instructions to the AllSpark. The artifact sheds its shell and shoots a beam into a waiting Starscream, fusing with the Seeker and infusing him with its power. Starscream gleefully declares he now has the power to return everyone to the AllSpark... and demonstrates by stripping his Seeker followers of their sparks.

At the Ark, Optimus Prime rallies a team of Autobots made up of Windblade, Grimlock, Bumblebee, Cheetor and Jetfire in order to retake the AllSpark from Starscream. They quickly make their way through the nearby GroundBridge and arrive at the GroundBridge nexus that served as the AllSpark's hiding place. Jetfire points out the bridge that will lead them to where Starscream met him, but as the Autobots make their way there, they find the Decepticons have arrived as well. Both sides gear up for a battle, but are interrupted as one of the GroundBridges flares to life. Accompanied by a swarm of Scraplets, the AllSpark-powered Starscream has arrived.

Joyful at finding all his greatest enemies all gathered in one spot, Starscream muses that they must eager to rejoin the AllSpark even as Cheetor comes to the horrified realisation that Starscream has integrated the AllSpark into his own systems. Optimus and Megatron waste no time and open fire on him, but their blasts are deflected. An attempt by Jetfire and Windblade for an aerial attack ends just as badly, and Shadow Striker and Shockwave's blasts fare no better. Now annoyed, Starscream paralyzes everyone present before demonstrating his command over them by forcing Grimlock to transform back and forth against his will. This petty display draws Megatron's mockery, and his dismissive attitude to Starscream's threats serves only to increase the Seeker's rage. Using his powers, Starscream forces everyone to kneel before him before he begins extracting their sparks. Left with no other options, Optimus uses the energy of the Matrix of Leadership to blast the AllSpark right out of Starscream. The effort exhausts Optimus, knocking him unconscious as the others recover.

Megatron gleefully scoops up the AllSpark and attempts to finish Optimus off, but Grimlock intervenes and a pitched three-way battle ensues between the Autobots, Decepticons, and the now feral Scraplets. The latter are quickly taken out of the fight when Shockwave seizes control of them with his new drone controller, and then they fall into a chasm courtesy of Grimlock. The fighting has destabilized the chamber, and as it begins to collapse, Cheetor recovers the AllSpark and Windblade calls for a retreat. Despite a last ditch attempt by Megatron, the Autobots successfully escape with both the AllSpark and the still comatose Optimus, only for Windblade to notice Bumblebee is missing. Her concerns are put to rest when Bumblebee emerges from the GroundBridge, dragging an unconscious Starscream, as he knows Optimus would want the Seeker to face justice. Satisfied, the victorious Autobots begin making their way home.

Quotes

"Optimus Prime. Always one step ahead. Makes it easier to shoot you in the back!"

Megatron offers a backhanded compliment.

"Oh, Megatron. Where would I be without the mighty Lord Megatron? I really should thank you for all the pain! The humiliation! The unrelenting cruel-"
"You're welcome."
"No! This is the part where you beg for my forgiveness!"
"Why should I? You are Starscream. You will fail. You always have. And you always will."

—An all-powerful Starscream and an unimpressed Megatron.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • Shockwave takes control of the Scraplets using modified versions of the drone controller Wheeljack used to control his hand in "Secret Science."
  • Most of the action this episode takes place in the GroundBridge nexus that acted as the AllSpark's hiding place, first seen in "Trials".

Transformers references

  • When Starscream absorbs the Seekers' sparks, their bodies lose their color, continuing the tradition of living metal turning grey upon death, something famously established in The Transformers: The Movie.
  • Optimus invokes Primus before he activates the Matrix of Leadership.
  • Starscream using the AllSpark in an attempt to become all powerful and destroy everyone hearkens back to the Underbase Saga, where a cosmically empowered Starscream killed nearly the entire cast of the Marvel comic books. This one was... less successful.
