This is what I call a target rich environment.

Maverick Entertainment was a home video distribution company that released VHS and DVD collections of the Generation 1 cartoon in the UK from the year 2000 until 2002 under a joint-deal with Sony's children's division, Sony Wonder.

Due to this deal, all the Generation 1 releases released by Maverick feature Sony Wonder's logo on their spine and a catalogue number starting with either SWV (for Sony Wonder Video) or SWD (Sony Wonder DVD). The deal remained in place even after TV-Loonland purchased all of Sony Wonder's TV assets in October 2000.

In 2003, the license to produce Transformers home video releases in the UK was passed on to Metrodome, which TV-Loonland AG had acquired a majority share in a few months prior.

Releases

The releases listed on this page are ordered by their production codes. As can be seen from the dates, this is not the order in which they were actually released.

• SWV1002 — Transformers: The Movie (February 21, 2000)
• SWD133 — Transformers: The Movie (November 26, 2001)

In 2001, Maverick released their own much-delayed DVD version of the film through Maverick. It was the UK version of the film, but included Spike's swear. However, the release was burdened by badly interlaced video, though it notably included the Omni Productions dub version of the Headmasters episode "Four Soldiers from the Sky" as an extra. This version (including the Headmasters episode) was also released as a "Special Collectors Edition" VHS.

• SWD134 — Transformers — Original Series: Volume One (January 28, 2002)

Featues the episodes "Fire on the Mountain", "War of the Dinobots" and "The Ultimate Doom" parts 1-3.

These releases are notable for using the original broadcast source for both the video and audio.

• SWD135 — Transformers: Generation 2 (March 11, 2002)

Contains the CG-enhanced versions of the episodes "More than Meets the Eye" parts 1-3, "S.O.S. Dinobots" and "Heavy Metal War".

• SWD136 — Transformers: Takara (August 26, 2002)

Contains the RTM 1 dub of the first six Headmasters episodes; "Four Soldiers from the Sky", "The Tale of the Master Star", "The Birth of a New Leader", "The Resurrected Billy Against the Decepticons", "The Revolt on Planet Pistoll" and "The Evil Meteor". Even though all the episodes are from The Headmasters, Sunbow had replaced their opening credit sequence with that from the Victory cartoon. By extension of this, Star Saber is predominantly featured on the DVD's artwork and title menu, despite his not appearing at all within the series.

• SWV138 — Transformers: The Movie — Special Collectors Edition (June 29, 2001)

The same as the above DVD version.

• SWD144 — Transformers — Original Series: Volume Two (April 29, 2002)

Features the episodes "More than Meets the Eye" parts 1-3, "Transport to Oblivion", "Roll for It" and "Divide and Conquer".

As with Volume One, this disc uses the original broadcast source.

Features the episodes "Fire in the Sky", "S.O.S. Dinobots", "Countdown to Extinction", "A Plague of Insecticons" and "Heavy Metal War".

• SWD150 — Transformers — Complete Original Series: Deluxe Edition (September 23, 2002)

The complete first season of the Generation 1 cartoon, in proper running order, plus "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1" and "The Rebirth, Part 1". This set still features the original broadcast video, but rather than using the broadcast audio as on their previous G1 discs, for this release Sony decided to "upgrade" the sound by using the infamous 5.1 track put together by Rhino and Magno. The extras are good, though. They include a whole bunch of commercial bumpers from G1, G2 and The Headmasters, adverts from G1, G2 and Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers, as well as character profiles, episode scripts, classic quotes, a fan art gallery, trivia quiz, and the promotional trailer used to sell The Transformers: The Movie to potential investors, featuring the Diaclone-coloured Ultra Magnus.
