Cuttledeep is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.

This character or person needs some sort of visual representation. If you have one, please replace this.

The harder the challenge, the more into it Cuttledeep (カトルディープ Katorudīpu) is. Destroying an enemy ship, going on a dangerous deep-dive mission, he's raring to go. His loyalty to Alligatron, incredibly fast swimming speed and impressive tentacle strength made him a valuable solider in the insurgent army aiming to take over planet Beast.

However, his greatest strength is his sharp mind. He's constantly dreaming up new ideas, working on engineering problems, new theories, and new device designs. He even invented his own MVP Weapon, the Dream Spear (ドリームスピア Dorīmu Supia), which when used underwater, enshrouds the immediate area in darkness and produces holograms to disorient his foes. It's during this time when he's the most dangerous, as his extremely sensitive eyes work very well in the dark, letting him strike unseen, though they do limit his effectiveness in bright light.

Following the war, he returned to his homeland of North Yutoranta, where he was made the subordinate Emperor of the land working under King Polar Battle Bear, despite the two having been on opposite sides. And yet the arrangement works incredibly well: the brash bear thinks up huge plans for the country, and the cunning cuttlefish now has the huge challenge of making them a reality. He couldn't be happier.

Cuttledeep has a rivalry going with fellow underwater operative and former insurgent Red Octo... although it's questionable if the aimless Octo is even aware of this.

Toys

Transformers: Beastformers

  • Cuttledeep (Beastformer, 1987)
    • ID number: 43
    • Pack: F
    • Accessories: Spear
Part of the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Cuttledeep is a white anthropomorphic cuttlefish in black robotic armor. His lower-left tentacle "arm" ends in a (non-firing) harpoon. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
He was only available in the "F Pack" assortment, and came in a green-grid generic "Destron Beastformer" box. He came with a bio card with a comic-style character image on a jungle backdrop, though there was a chance his bio card would instead be replaced with the rare "VS Holography Mirror" card featuring Green Chameles and Platinum Tiger.

Beastformers

  • Cuttledeep (Beastformer, 1988)
    • Beast ID number: 43
    • Accessories: "Dream Spear" MVP Weapon
Re-released in the Transformers-less Beastformers sequel series, Cuttledeep was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with corrected coloring. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Dream Spear".
He was sold in the second assortment of individually-packed Beastformers, with a peg-hole in the top flap, and a sticker on the bottom with his name and role on it. This series did not have any kind of "rare card" random pack-in promotion.
Late in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Notes

  • Cuttledeep's 1987 checklist-poster art incorrectly gives him a silver-colored weapon. The recolored 1988 version of the art corrects this mistake.
  • His 1988 bio card gives him the nickname "Mongo" (モンゴ Mongo), which is derived from mongō ika (紋甲いか), which can refer to the common cuttlefish or kisslip cuttlefish.
  • His '88 card also notes he was born in the North Yutoranta part of Bug Bay.

Foreign names

  • English: Cutthroat Cuttlefish
