Sur

Sur is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Though only a Captain of the Laser Beast army's Underground Operations division, Sur (シュール Shūru) is practically Emperor Tigerburn's right-hand beast. Endlessly calm and collected, he treats combat like a game... entertaining, amusing, a lot of fun... but he always plays to win. He's a brilliant strategist who is quick to think on his feet, able to adapt to adverse situations without losing his cool. He's as effective in the field of battle as he is in the planning room, wading through combat with a faint smile on his face (or whatever passes for a smile with that face).

Of course, it helps that his MVP Weapon, the Auto Telepath Laser (オートテレパスレーザー Ōto Terepasu Rēzā) is capable of temporarily tuning its target into a mindless puppet for Sur to command. When you can turn the enemy against his own, well, that's not just good tactics, it's fun.

Sur was among the Laser Beasts who occupied their underground city. LG51 Doublecross Prologue Sur participated in the final battle between Beastformers and Laser Beasts on Beast in 2023. He watched as a portal opened to reveal 2021-based Transformers and their allies fleeing the end of the Legends World. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 1

In 2038, the then-peaceful Beast was invaded by Galvatron II's Decepticons. Sur was part of the joint Beastformer-Laser Beast alliance that fought against the invaders, but he was trounced by Dreadwing's Dread Roadblock Mode. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 3

Part of the first assortment of Takara's Beastformers individually-boxed Laser Beasts, Sur is an anthropomorphic orange and brown centipede in high-tech red armor. His left arm ends in an open claw. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.

Nominally, he comes with the "Auto Telepath Laser" blaster. However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Laser Beasts in his shipping case; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons was part of the "role-playing game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys.

This toy was actually released in Hasbro's Battle Beasts line as part of the "Shadow Warriors" series, but they saw extremely limited distribution, largely hitting clearance chains in the US, plus limited releases in parts of Europe. As such, it generally goes for a bit less than the later Laser Beasts that were only released in Japan, but not a lot less. There is a minor variant to the gun that has popped up in some EU and Canadian samples, though it's a bit harder to notice than most of the other gun variants: both versions have the "87" ID number stamped on the left-hand side in the indent between the handle and guard, but the common version has the number much larger, taking up most of the vertical space, while the variant is a fair bit smaller.

• Shūru (シュール) is used as shorthand for the Japanese rendition of surréalisme (シュールレアリスム; French for "surrealism"), and so this wiki has opted to assume that is the intention of the name. By itself, sur- is the French equivalent for "over-", but this meaning is not retained for Japanese shūru.
• It is currently unknown what his Hasbro Battle Beasts name was going to be.
