The two Sumdac Technicians were among those who worked on engineering some nanobots. The test went horribly awry, leading to the creation of a monstrous cockroach creature. Thankfully, the Autobots stepped in and defeated the monster. Transform and Roll Out

Eddie and Matt, as well as another technician, assisted Professor Sumdac in a demonstration for his new model of police drones. They didn’t get to do much though, since the drone went up and spontaneously exploded just as the demonstration began. Total Meltdown

The pair were part of a group of technicians testing out a high-tech suit, meant to allow its wearer to move at super-speeds. The suit proved too difficult for them to handle. Nanosec

Later, Eddie and Matt re-engineered Isaac Sumdac's nanotechnology (the one that had previously gone monstrously awry) so as to be a convenient solution to Detroit's current garbage problem. They then reported to the acting CEO of Sumdac Systems, Porter C. Powell, telling him both of their improvements and that the nanobots would be far more cost-effective than the current waste disposal robots. Powell decided to charge the city of Detroit an arm and a leg for the use of the nanobots anyway. Garbage In, Garbage Out

• Eddie and Matt were not named in the episode, but in The AllSpark Almanac, which took their names from those of two human characters that were part of the very early development of the Generation 1 animated series. Eddie and Matt were part of an early production bible written by Jeffrey Scott as part of a pitch to sell the series to network television, with Eddie playing the role of stock "young human ally of the Autobots" character, and Matt playing the part of an "older brother" for him (figuratively, rather than literally). Ultimately, it was decided that the series would go directly into syndication, rather than be produced through a network, and when Bryce Malek and Dick Robbins were hired as story editors after the production of the pilot miniseries, they reviewed the ideas in Scott's bible, but chose to discard Eddie and Matt in favour of more directly continuing the series on from the pilot, using Spike Witwicky as their human character. The idea of the "elder brother" was dropped, although Matt did leave his mark on the series in a way—in the event that the "Matt" figure was used, Malek and Robbins briefly considered making the Eddie/Spike character handicapped and hence more reliant on the Autobots, ultimately inspiring Chip Chase.
