Generation 1 continuity family
The Transformers »

The Generation 1 franchise encompasses many types of fiction, but none have been as prolific as its various comic-book series. They include:

English language comics

Marvel Comics

Marvel Comics continuity

Meanwhile, their British branch, Marvel UK, also published Transformers comics, a mix of reprinted strips from the US series (occasionally slightly edited or recontextualized) and original strips primarily written by the aforementioned Simon Furman:

  • The Transformers (Marvel UK) #1-332
  • Transformers Annual 1985–1987, 1989-1992 — a yearly series of hardback books with a mix of new comics, reprinted comics, text stories and features.
  • Transformers Collected Comics (1985-1994) — a companion series, reprinting entire stories from the main Marvel UK run (hence the name), in many ways a precursor of the modern trade paperback. They were published on a semi-regular basis, usually as Summer or Winter specials.

Other Generation 1-based Marvel series

Dreamwave Productions

Main article: Dreamwave Productions

Dreamwave Generation One continuity

Several miniseries and an ongoing series published by Dreamwave Productions. Several series were cut short with Dreamwave's bankruptcy.

Other Generation 1-based Dreamwave series

IDW Publishing

Main article: 2005 IDW continuity

IDW published a robust series of ongoings, miniseries, one-shots and crossovers throughout the thirteen-year span of their original Generation 1-based continuity, which later grew to include other Hasbro-owned properties. A full list can be seen at IDW Publishing § G1 rebooted, but the major series included:

2019 IDW continuity (2019–2022)

Main article: 2019 IDW continuity

Having launched Unicron by stating it would be the conclusion of their ongoing Transformers universe, in December 2018 IDW announced a new continuity to replace it.[1]

Other Generation 1-based IDW series

Skybound Entertainment

After the end of IDW's tenure on the Transformers license, Skybound Entertainment began publishing new Transformers comics.

Energon Universe (2023–)
