This toy was reissued in 1991 as part of the European/Australian Classics line.

While Springer being armed with a light saber is not particularly surprising given that The Transformers: The Movie was marketed as "conceived in the epic tradition of Star Wars", this seems like a particularly egregious bit of trademark baiting from Hasbro given that Lucasfilm are particularly protective over the lightsaber.
The Dreamwave More than Meets the Eye writers sidestepped the issue entirely by replacing Springer's light saber with a more generic energy saber.
