While searching his memories to understand the Allspark, Bumblebee makes a more important discovery... the memory of his friend Optimus Prime.

Synopsis

Any landing you can drive away from...

Now that the Decepticons are aware of their presence on Earth, Bumblebee and Windblade have no choice but to hijack the Decepticon scout ship, setting a course through a nearby mountain range. Bumblebee's piloting skills leave much to be desired, however, and after one close call too many, Windblade orders him to set down near a remote radio tower in the hopes that the human radio waves will block their signal from their Decepticon pursuers. Windblade takes advantage of their cover to use the cortical psychic patch again, hoping that this time Bumblebee will remember the AllSpark.

Inside Bumblebee's mind, he reveals that he's gradually beginning to puzzle things out — their home planet, Cybertron, the war that led him to Earth, and the AllSpark, responsible for the creation of the Transformer race. Bumblebee doesn't remember what the AllSpark is, however, so Windblade prompts him to access another memory where the artifact is prominently displayed...

On Cybertron, Grimlock encourages Bumblebee as the yellow Autobot zooms through a war-torn cityscape, carrying a valuable 'package' in his passenger compartment: the AllSpark itself, intended to be transported to an abandoned storage depot so it can be safely hidden. When the AllSpark begins glowing blue and whispering to itself, however, Bumblebee transforms to examine it — and, in doing so, its energies briefly envelop him and the surrounding landscape; when the artifact whispers his name, however, a startled Bumblebee drops the relic. When Grimlock reminds him of his duty, however, Bumblebee obligingly heads off to the drop point, only to pause again when the AllSpark speaks to him. That hesitation, it turns out, saves his life, as Starscream and a squadron of Decepticons arrive and destroy the depot! Bumblebee quickly transforms and races off again, however, and a chase ensues as Starscream pursues his Autobot foe...

Bumblebee resurfaces from the memory, with a key realization: the AllSpark saved his life, and the memory has reawakened him to the importance of the Allspark. Windblade confirms Bumblebee's assessment that the Allspark contains infinite life; when Bumblebee asks how they could have lost it, she grimly directs him to another memory.

CONSUME-MASS-QUANTITIES

On a war-torn battlefield, Optimus Prime helps Bumblebee up as the Autobots move toward their objective: the space bridge. As the pair transform and close in on their objective, they receive assistance from Windblade, while Grimlock lays down covering fire - only to be downed himself. Megatron appears and realizes that Prime has the AllSpark, Megatron orders his troops to stop the Autobot commander; though Starscream blocks Prime's path, he's out-finessed by Windblade. Prime orders Bumblebee to open the space bridge, intending to take the AllSpark as far away as possible to keep it out of Megatron's hands. As Windblade pins down Shadow Striker, Bumblebee rolls off to complete the mission.

As Bumblebee reaches the space bridge's control panel, however, he finds his way barred by Soundwave; fighting the Decepticon's punishing barrage of sonic blasts, Bumblebee opens the bridge, just as Megatron orders his troops to open fire on the portal. Carrying the AllSpark, Optimus races towards the space bridge, but before he can reach it, he's shot in the back by Megatron. With the damaged space bridge portal shrinking to nothing, Optimus risks it all and hurls the AllSpark into the bridge seconds before it is destroyed by the Decepticons.

Back in Bumblebee's mind, he enthuses about the "awesome guy" from his memories, and Windblade gently reminds him that his name was Optimus Prime, his old commander and friend. Although Optimus is missing in action, Windblade maintains that he's still out there, and as the pair watch, more memories flicker to life — Bumblebee's mind is slowly repairing itself.

Quotes

"From now on, you'll do none of the flying. I'll do all of the flying."

Windblade doesn't think much of Bumblebee's piloting skils

"I think I have it figured out. We are from a planet made of metal. And, uh, everyone's been fighting for millions of years, and we've ruined our home because we don't like each other? Oh! And there's this thing called the AllSpark that created all of us, because... I don't know why. But we lost it."
"Well, it's not as simple as all... actually, that pretty much sums it up."

Trivia

  • In the last flashback to the war on Cybertron, Megatron has an Australian/British accent that isn't present in his later appearances in the show.

Animation and technical errors

  • When Starscream runs toward Windblade, his cockpit is colored dark grey instead of orange, and his wings are attached to his body.
  • After Starscream flies off, Optimus' mouthplate disappears, but reappears when he speaks to Bumblebee.
  • In one shot of Shadow Striker's brief appearance, her headlights aren't on her chest.
  • As Bumblebee turns around and sees some of his damaged memories coming back, he is missing the Autobot symbol on his chest.
  • For some reason, Optimus Prime is wearing the Movie symbol rather the normal one, whether it was intentional or not, it's unknown.
