The Wii U is an HD video game console first released by Nintendo in 2012. The successor to Nintendo's 2006 Wii system, the Wii U utilized a large tablet-like controller with a screen called the Wii U GamePad. It was succeeded in 2017 by the Nintendo Switch.
Not to sugarcoat it, the Wii U wasn't very successful at all. It is officially Nintendo's worst-performing home console (selling less than 14 million units, as opposed to the Wii's sales of over 101 million[1]), and died young with a lifespan of about four years on the market.
