Marvin Gaye (born April 2, 1939 - April 1, 1984) was an influential American singer and songwriter. His efforts in the 1960s helped define Motown (a style of soul music created with an eye to popular appeal), while his 1970s concept albums reflected real-world issues and his 1980s efforts shaped modern R&B. Gaye has received many honors for his efforts, including posthumous induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Gaye's "Sexual Healing" is one of several songs used in the 2007 Transformers film, but for reasons unknown was not included on the actual soundtrack.
