MP3 is a member of G.I. Joe from the 2005 IDW continuity portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
I dunno if this guy's REALLY G.I. Joe—he's not wearing, like, a football jersey or anything.

MP3 is so excited to be a part of G.I. Joe! Yo Joe! YO JOE! Knowing is half the battle! Wooooooooooooooo!

He's the primary operator of the Action Van.

2005 IDW continuity

[edit]

Years ago, when G.I. Joe went public, MP3 was second-in-command of the Admin Force, the bureaucratic arm of the military organization that filed paperwork and occasionally visited college campuses to warn against falling in with the terrorist organization Cobra. One by one, the rest of Admin Force—Webcam, Startup, Blue Tick, and Tommy Staples—resigned, unsatisfied with never seeing real action. But MP3 tarried, writing a resignation letter he'd never hand in, and ultimately he ended up roaming Texas in his Action Van alone looking for adventure.

Suddenly, adventure happened! A giant robotic Tyrannosaurus rex stomped up Amarillo, Texas, and he decided it was his job, as an integral part of G.I. Joe, to investigate. Instead, MP3 met two members of M.A.S.K., Alex Higgins and Dennis Taylor. After MP3's Action Van failed to keep up with their combined efforts, Alex and Dennis unmasked to reveal their real super-freaky selves, causing MP3 to faint from shock and/or fright. And because Alex and Dennis were really Decepticons who knew just enough about humans to be dangerous, they thought MP3 was dead and they buried him in the ground.

Thankfully, MP3 used his G.I. Joe pen as a straw to keep himself breathing in his shallow grave just long enough for the Decepticons to return and dig him back up once they'd realized their mistake. After revealing to them the hopelessness of his tragic backstory, he agreed to do them a favor by helping the Decepticons and a Dire Wraith named CONS4EVA conduct a ceremony to reach total Brand Awareness and initiate a Crossover in the ultimate expression of Brand Loyalty, resulting in an interdimensional portal that leads the forgotten to where they need to go. However, the resulting ceremony produced a very tiny portal, only barely large enough for MP3 to deliver his resignation letter.

When he realized the Decepticons and the Dire Wraith left Earth without him, he immediately shoved his arm back into the portal in an attempt to get the letter back. Nothing Will Ever Be the Same Again!
