Overwatch 2 is a first-person shooter game published by Blizzard Entertainment, a sequel-cum-replacement to the original smash-hit [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Overwatch|{{#if:||Overwatch}}]], which wildly popularized the "hero shooter" genre.
Sometimes, people remember Overwatch 2 exists.
Between July 9 and July 23, 2024, a collaboration with the Transformers franchise took place as part of the game's eleventh season. A promotional comic, "Transmission", was released on July 5 to promote the event.
Transformers content

The collaboration added four character skins, including Reinhardt as Optimus Prime, Bastion as Bumblebee, Illari as Arcee, and Ramattra as Megatron. Each skin could be purchased in a bundle with a set of accompanying cosmetics for 2500 credits (roughly $25 USD — YIKES), or all together as part of a "mega bundle" for 5900 credits (about $50 USD — YIKES). So for anyone planning to get more than one, there was really no point in buying anything but the bundle. The distribution of cosmetics for each bundle was as follows:
| Bundle | Skin | Highlight Intro | Victory pose | Name card | Player icon | Voice lines | Spray |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bastion (Bumblebee) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Illari (Arcee) | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | 1 | No |
| Reinhardt (Optimus Prime) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | 3 | No |
| Ramattra (Megatron) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | 2 | Yes |

Notes
Transformers references

- Bastion's bird companion Ganymede is given a Transformer-ized form with an orange color scheme reminiscent of Armada Laserbeak.
- Reinhardt's highlight intro is a reference to Optimus Prime's iconic leap from The Transformers: The Movie.
- When their respective Transformer skins are equipped, the Transformers-themed highlight intros will play a recognizable sound effect during the transformation (more of a camera trick in Reinhardt's case). When another skin is used, these sound effects do not play.
- In another nod to the iconic noise, Bastion's license plate reads "T-C-C-C-T", an abbreviation of ""Tsche-Chu-Chu-Chu-Tsche", an onomatopoeia used in the 2005 IDW continuity.
- Each of the new voice lines is based on a Transformers quote from the corresponding Transformer, most of which originate from episodes of the original cartoon:
- "Do not forget what you have learned of our past." and "From lessons of the past, the future is forged" are both based on lines said by Optimus in "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4": "Do not forget what you've learned of our past, Rodimus. From its lessons, the future is forged..."
- "I will win by any means", while fairly generic, is a Megatron quote from "Heavy Metal War".
- "Power flows to the one who knows how" was said by Megatron in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 2".
- "We've suffered losses, but we've not lost the war" is an Optimus quote originating from "Roll for It".
- "Underestimate me at your own risk" is the lone exception, as it's actually a movie Arcee motto first used in marketing material circa Dark of the Moon.
Other trivia
- According to "Coalescence", Strongarm and Windblade both play Overwatch, maining Zenyatta and Genji, respectively.
- In the official collaboration, Bastion, already something of a faux Transformer, is the only character to receive a vehicle mode based on his Transformer counterpart, with his tank mode being repurposed as an approximation of Bumblebee's original Volkswagen Beetle form.
- Other unrealized concepts for Transformers skins included Lucio as Soundwave, Pharah as Starscream, and Wrecking Ball as Unicron.<ref>"Overwatch 2 Reveals Alternate Transformers Characters, Secrets of New Collab" </ref>
