Daniel freed him from his bonds and, during the battle for the castle, the dungeon wall was breached.

The Golden One's pupil is a resident of Menonia, a magical kingdom in an alternate dimension. As his description suggests, he is the favourite student of the Golden One, the sorcerer who rules Menonia.
