- A mech is a piece of technology in the Crossovers franchise.
A mech (sometimes also called a battle suit) is a transforming robot operated by a human or humanoid. There are many different designs, and their alt-modes range from motorcycles to space stations.
This is not the only definition of "mech" in Transformers fiction; see Notes below.

Technology was developed during the Clone Wars[1] that allowed vehicles to "morph" into a vaguely humanoid "mech mode."[2] In some cases, this transformation was guided (perhaps even created) by the use of the Force.[3] In others, it was a more standard push-button affair.[4] Both the Republic fighters[1] and the Separatists[5] employed this technology, and even bounty hunters[6] got in on it. It also featured in the war between the Empire[4] and the Rebellion,[2] again by both sides.

Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man used alien technology to create mechs for their fellow superheroes.[7] In response, the villain Doctor Doom created battle suits for Venom and Carnage.[8]

- Many of the Star Wars bios are worded in a way that sounds as though the characters themselves are turning into spaceships. However, several others make a distinction between the character and the vehicle, and all of those toys come with mini-figures of the actual pilots/drivers. (In contrast, the Marvel bios are unambiguous about the mechs being mere suits, but no pilot/driver figures are included.)
- The term "mech" has also been used in some Transformers fiction as a substitute for "person" when talking about a robot. The Timelines text stories in particular tend to employ this usage, as well as the Micromasters comic series. This should NOT be confused with the fanon usage of "mech" to mean "male robot" (as opposed to "femme" meaning "female robot"). "Mech" has never been portrayed as gender-specific in the canon.
